Explore Havana, Cuba
The best time to visit Havana is from November to April, when the temperatures are warm and the rainfall is minimal. Dec and Jan are especially popular, offering nice weather and festive celebrations. Avoid the rainy season (May-Oct) which is characterised by heavy rainfall and occasional hurricanes.
Havana is well-known as a place where time seems to stand still. Havana is famous for its colorful streets, vintage cars, history, and sultry music.
Some of the most popular attractions in Havana include:
Old Havana (La Habana Vieja) a UNESCO World Heritage Site with cobblestone streets, colonial architecture and vibrant plazas.
Malecón: The iconic seaside promenade is perfect for a sunset walk and people-watching.
Plaza de la Revolución: A historic square with Che Guevara mural.
El Capitolio: The Cuban Capitol building, built almost to the last detail like the US Capitol building, but unique to Cuba.
Fusterlandia: A colorful mosaic art project by José Fuster, a whimsical neighborhood.
Callejón de Hamel: A vibrant alleyway filled with Afro-Cuban street art, live music, and spiritual energy.
Hershey Train: Take a nostalgic train ride through the Cuban countryside, connecting Havana to Matanzas.
Museo del Ron (Rum Museum): Learn about Cuba’s legendary rum-making traditions.
Playas del Este: A series of idyllic beaches just 30 minutes from central Havana.
Havana is more than a city; it’s an experience. When we visited in the summer of 2023, we did a lot of research beforehand to know what to expect. Traveling from the U.S. meant we had to state an acceptable reason to travel and ensure the proper Visas were purchased ahead of our travel (we didn't want to risk getting the Visa at the Miami airport - I like to be prepared!).
There are so many things that are different about a visit to Cuba, including bringing your own toilet paper and having tip money for the public restrooms. The heat is sweltering, so we took double-wall insulated stainless steel tumblers with ice from home. Surprisngly, the ice lasted the duration of our 4-day trip. On some excursions, we were the only ones with ice-cold water!
Visiting Cuba is one of our all-time favorite experiences!
